Camp de Vaussieux

Camp de Vaussieux, Echoes of History in the Countryside

Located in Vaux-sur-Seulles, less than 10 minutes from Bayeux, the Vaussieux Castle was the headquarters of the "Camp de Vaussieux" in August 1778. Under Louis XVI, it hosted an army of 30,000 soldiers for military maneuvers to support American troops in their quest for independence from England. In 1780, regiments from Vaussieux joined Count Rochambeau, contributing to the decisive victory at Yorktown in 1781 and the Treaty of Paris in 1783, recognizing the independence of the United States from Great Britain.
